Growing Food

We are growing food along the driveway at The Center at 435.

We have a space less than 2 feet wide and 100 feet long, framed by an asphalt driveway and six foot tall wooden fence. East is behind the fence, so the plants get primarily mid day through late afternoon sun.

So far we have eaten corn, English and lemon cucumbers. Having just-picked cucumbers in our salad at lunch is DIVINE! Still waiting for string beans, summer squash, pumpkins, decorative gourds.

Our garden reminds each of us of the gifts we are given. That food can be grown in a small piece of precious earth, with some tending, water, and the great fire sun. We hope to inspire others to grow food in their lives. In a yard or in a pot. 

Connecting with the earth, the seeds, plants, harvest, increases awareness and appreciation for what it takes to have fresh, delicious vegetables. At this time, we cannot sustain ourselves by what we grow. We marvel at what that would take and continue to send blessings and gratitude to those men and women who work so hard to grow the amazing, abundant variety of food that provide the calories that we do need. We pray that as a community we can continue to return to the earth and to her gifts.

Our one suggestion is to begin growing food NOW and encourage others to do so, as well.
